Portugal wins photo Cup

Portugal’s team has won the 2016 World Photographic Cup. Team Portugal received two medals and six top-ten finishes — achieving a total of 55 points — hence beating the other 26 national photographic teams.

The 14th Festa do Jazz (Jazz Festival, in English) features, for the first time, five nights and five days of shows, between March 16 and 20, at São Luiz Theatre, in Lisbon. The event will feature musicians from Berlin.

IndieLisboa International Independent Film Festival will be back in Lisbon from April 20 to May 1. Dutch filmmaker Paul Verhoeven and French actor Vincent Macaigne will be the main focus of the festival’s Independent Hero section.

Martinho to be expanded

Lisbon’s historical café Martinho da Arcada – where the acclaimed Portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa used to go – is planning to occupy the upstairs floor and become a literary café.

Tokyo, Europa and Jamaica close

Whoever is used to clubbing in Lisbon knows Jamaica, Tokyo and Europa. These three popular discos are now supposed to close within one month. The landlords want to terminate the leasing contracts.

Dances throughout the city

It started on March 4 and it goes until March 19. It is the first edition of the Festival Internacional de Dança Contemporânea de Lisboa, Cumplicidades, Latitudes em Movimento (Lisbon's International Contemporary Dance Festival, Complicities, Latitudes in Movement, in English).

The beginning of MONSTRA

The Lisboa Animated Film Festival 2016, known as MONSTRA, starts on Thursday, March 3, offering a selection of more than 600 films. This year’s edition highlights Eastern Europe.

Paratissima in Lisbon

Some of Lisbon's historic neighbourhoods will be in an urban route of 2,5 kilometres featuring a large scale exhibition of contemporary art. It will be Paratissima's first edition in the city.

New president for CCB

Elísio Summavielle is the new president of Belém Cultural Centre (CCB). Portugal's minister of Culture, João Soares, nominated him after dismissing the previous president, António Lamas.
