The Queer Lisboa 20 — International Queer Film Festival is to take place between September 16 and 26, in S. Jorge Cinema and the Portuguese Cinematheque — Museum of Cinema.
The event is the first Portuguese Film Festival dedicated exclusively to screening gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and transsexual themed films. For its 20th edition, the festival brings a retrospective of the work of Derek Jarman, British director, poet, designer and activist. “The retrospective sets the tone for a reflexion on the punk, post-punk and experimental british cinema culture, putting Jarman’s work in dialogue with names such as John Maybury, John Scarlett-Davis and Cerith Wyn Evans,” the City Council announced. Another highlight is the national premiere of the film Absolutely Famous: The Movie, which is an adaption of the British television series.
The Queer Lisboa 20 full program includes 114 films from 27 countries.
