The Portuguese director João Pedro Rodrigues won last week a Honorific Award in the Zinegoak, Bilbao International LGBT Film and Performing Arts Festival, Portuguese news agency Lusa has reported.

According to the official website of the festival — which is going on in Bilbao — works by Mr Rodrigues have “a provocative” look and denote a “tireless and unclassifiable demand” for new ways for old, renovated contents, and for exploring “the desire of the human being in all its aspects”.

The organisers of the festival also considered Mr Rodrigues”a reference” in LGBT cinema, according to the website.

The work of the Portuguese filmmaker has been recognized internationally several times before. For instance, his film The Ornithologist (2016) was awarded last year in the Locarno Festival.

He has also directed the film The Last Time I Saw Macau (2012), together with João Rui Guerra da Mata.
