Portuguese utility company EDP is offering a 50,000-euros (approximately 449,000 patacas) scholarship to students in the fields of film or audiovisual arts, the firm announced on its website. The initiative follows the campaign “One century of energy for Manoel de Oliveira” that pays tribute to the famous Portuguese filmmaker.

“This is an unique opportunity for young Portuguese filmmakers to invest in their training […] in the fields of cinema, production, direction,” EDP says.

Students eligible to apply for this scholarship have to be attending a licentiate degree or a master degree in areas related to cinema or audiovisual arts in Portugal or in overseas. Eligible students should have Portuguese nationality and present a short — maximum six-minute — fiction or documentary film made by them.

The period for applications for the EDP Manoel de Oliveira Scholarship started yesterday, Wednesday, May 18, and will end can on July 18. More details can be found here.
