The Lisboa Animated Film Festival 2017, known as MONSTRA, will start on Thursday, March 16, and will last until March 26, in several cinemas of the Portuguese capital, Lisbon.

“This year, we will have Italy as our guest country, as a tribute to the great masters of Italian animation, such as Bruno Bozzetto (Allegro non Troppo) or Enzo D’Aló (Pinocchio), Julia Gromskaya and Simone Massi, as well as Giannalberto Bendazzi and Luca Raffaeli, who will be the curators of some of our programs,” the organizers say in the event’s official website.

According to the press release, the festival’s Feature Film Competition will include the screening of My Life as a Zucchini, by Claude Barras, a director who will take part in MONSTRA’s events. In the festival’s Special Session section there will be the screening of The Red Turtle, by Michael Dudok De Wit, a film co-produced by Studio Ghibli.

The programme of this 16th edition of MONSTRA also includes the screening of Ghost in the Shell: The New Movie, by Kazuchika Kise, and The Anthem of the Heart, by Tatsuyuki Nagai.

The 2017 edition of the festival will also include a session dedicated to adult animation for the first time. The session, called Triple X, will take place at Cinema Ideal and target people aged 18 or above.
