The Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation’s Modern Collection museum will host Portugal em Flagrante, a semi-permanent arrangement aimed at providing an in-depth resource for students and teachers about the relation between the 20th century’s artistic production in Portugal and the country’s political and cultural development.

The first part of the new display — Operação 1 — will be held until January 8, 2017. It “will use works on paper (books, photographs, prints and drawings) to suggest an outline of the 20th century in Portugal, and how broader political and cultural changes are reflected in the nature of artistic production,” according to the organisers.

“Drawing extensively on the holdings of the Art Library, the timeline documents the unique characteristics of the 20th century in Portugal,” the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation adds.
