A Russian cinema cycle is taking place until July 13, in the city of Lisbon, Portugal. Featuring 19 films, it happens on Mondays, at Espaço Nimas.

The cinema cycle started in the 1920s, with films by pioneers of the Russian cinema and the major names of the first half of the 20th century, like Serguei Eisenstein, Dziga Vertov, Boris Barnet and Aleksandr Dovzhenko.

Now, what is usually referred to as the new Russian and Soviet cinema, which started in the 1960s, can be seen at Espaço Nimas, through the works of Larisa Shepitko, Mikhail Romm, Serguei Bondarchuk, Marlen Khutsiev, Nikita Mikhalkov, Elem Klimov and Andrei Konchalovsky.

Many of the films were never in the commercial circuit in Portugal and are relatively unknown.
