The Christmas Festival, organised by the Teatro Nacional de São Carlos, is taking place until December 23, in the capital city of Portugal. It features 13 concerts, plus activities for the youngsters.

The programme is divided into three sections, namely choral concerts, concerts and workshops for children and youngsters, and symphonic concerts for families. The festival is to take place at Teatro Nacional de São Carlos, but also at Centro Cultural de Belém and at Estúdios Victor Córdon – Centro Educativo.

The highlights of the programme are the concerts at the São Carlos Foyer, featuring eight coral concerts, by children choirs as well as the Choir of the Teatro Nacional de São Carlos. The repertoire includes only Christmas themes.

Another highlight is the Santa Claus Workshop, on December 1, and the Christmas Workshop, from December 19 to 23, targeting children from seven to 12 years old. Children will be able to work The Nutcracker’s themes from the ballet song and the original short-story.

The symphonic concerts are to take place starting from December 3. Some highlights featured in this category are Peter and the Wolf, by Sergei Prokofiev, and The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra, by Benjamin Britten, played by the Portuguese Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Natalie Murray Beale.
