The Lebanese singer and oud master, Marcel Khalife, will perform in Macau, at Macao Cultural Centre, on June 17.

The musician combines the tradition of the oud — ancestor of European lute — with classical, jazz and folk idioms. He has taken his sound to festivals around the globe, including Morocco’s World Sacred Music Fes Festival and Sweden’s Re Orient.

Having been born and raised in a region hit by war, the artist has been trying to promote a peaceful reconciliation and has won the Palestine Award for music, in 1999, UNESCO’s Artist for Peace, awarded in 2005 and the Académie Charles Cros Award in 2007.
