The 27th Macao Arts Festival (MAF) features a total of 27 shows and art exhibitions, by both local and foreigner artists, besides dozens of parallel activities as part of MAF’s Outreach Programme. It is being held in the city between April 30 and May 29.

One of the highlights of this year’s programme is “Krapp’s Last Tape” – an adaptation of Samuel Beckett’s work –, by world famous theatre and opera director Robert Wilson.

Among the many shows, there will also be one from Portugal. The vocalist of Portuguese group Clã, Manuela Azevedo, comes to Macau together with Hélder Gonçalves and Victor Hugo Pontes, to perform “Coppia”, joining dance and music in… a tennis court. The show will be performed at the Sands Theatre.

The 400th anniversary of the death of both British author William Shakespeare and Chinese playwright Tang Xianzu marks this year’s edition of MAF. The tribute to William Shakespeare will highlight both the opening and the closing of the festival. As for Tang Xianzu, the acclaimed author will be remembered with two shows. The Cinema Alegria’s stage will welcome “The Legend of the Purple Hairpin”, performed by Chu Chan Wa and the Macao Cantonese Opera Actors, from May 7 to 8.
