Eduardo Magalhães
Macau, 2016

Every three months mART invites a group of artists from Macau and Lisbon to showcase their talent in our online gallery, by creating an art piece inspired on a topic provided by us. Door is our second edition’s theme.

The artist:

Eduardo Magalhães (Macau)

Son of Macanese, Eduardo Magalhães has lived in both Portugal and Macau, where he is currently based. Having enrolled in Portugal’s ETIC – Multimedia and Interactive Production, in 2001, and in IT programming in Rumos, in the following year, the world of image has always attracted him. He has also received professional training at Portugal’s CENJOR – Centre for the Training of Journalists, having worked as a freelance photojournalist for several publications.

It was in the early 2000s he started experimenting with “the technique of prolonged exposure to help ‘sketch’ an image being taken, or overlaying other images inside the ‘dark room’” of his camera, “or even reusing the same frame of the film”. The output, he says, “would always be a question mark and a surprise”. His first solo photography exhibition, Macau of My Own, was held in 2014, at Creative Macau.

Note: The artist has authorised mART to publish this work.
